First P-Day Email from Home MTC
Hey Friends!
The past 2 days at the MTC have been amazing. Today I start my first language class! Mi compeñera es Hermana Nase. She is absolutely amazing! And everyone in my district is so anxiously engaged in the work. It feel amazing to be surrounded by members with such high hopes for future.
Yesterday I felt too imperfect to be serving a mission. I cried unto my heavenly father pleading for guidance and revelation. But I had forgotten that he has answered me multiple times before. And my answer was a simple "why deny the power therin?" It caused me to reflect. The lord has answered answered prayers so many times, and I continued to doubt. I need to remember that being pure and worthy does not mean perfect. President Bednar spoke to the missionaries saying that we are not going to be ready for the celestial kingdom at 19. That this is a moment of growth, not a moment of perfection.
During my personal studies I have been learning about why bad things happen to good people. In this study I found a quote by Elder Richard G. Scott that says
"just when all seems to be going right, challenges often come in multiple doses often applied simultaneously. When those trials are not a consequence of your own disobedience, they are evidence that the Lord feels you are prepared to grow more. He therefore gives you experiences that stimulate growth, understanding, and compassion which polish you for your everlasting benefit. To get you from where you are to where you need to be requires a lot of stretching and that generally entails discomfort and pain."
I know missions are hard. I don't have a desire to serve because I think it will be easy. I have a desire to be more like Jesus Christ. If I intend to be like Jesus Christ, then I must endure hardships like be did. Christ may ask for a lot, but he gave more. Brigham Young said
"Why should we imagine for one moment that we can be prepared to enter into the kingdom of God with him and the father without going through similar ordeals?"
There is comfort in knowing that trials are because of my faith. Because God believes we can grow. Because he sees how strong we are, and we need to see that in ourselves. And when we are not perfect, we must understand that we aren't here to be perfect. We are simply here to show our faith God, despite our imperfections.
I hope you have a wonderful day,
Hermana Reynolds
